Love, Loss and Living

Episode 834

Why does it seem so easy to judge others than to go easy on others? Has the pandemic made us more critical and judgemental?! Can we move away from more judgement to more empathy?

Tune in when my newest co-host Yarona Boster and I talk about what and how to turn our knee-jerk, emphasis on jerk reactions can be turned into more valuable and useful empathy for humanKIND emphasis on kind✌️❣️

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 855

Todays topic is about the stories we tell in the face of loss….funny or amusing stories, happy stories and even the dark stories. They all have the capacity to bring that person back to life for us. The importance of stories we tell during funerals, wakes and with our dying loves ones too.

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 860

Self care and self compassion are not selfish. Taking care of your own emotional and mental health and stability is vital to optimal functioning as a human being. Empathetic people have the hardest time caring for themselves and often feel tremendous guilt associated with saying no or opting out of something that isn't healthy for them. One of the reasons for this is because they've often developed their own empathy during those hard times. This is especially true in the role of parenting. We often think we have to sacrifice our own self care to help our children.  This is a fallacy we need to dismantle and the way to start is by creating more space for the awareness of boundaries, both ours and others.

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 864

Join my co-host Yarona Boster and I as we discuss Why mistakes are actually good for us. How parenting plays a huge role in how we view the mistakes we make in life, the need for perfection and how we can reframe that into opportunities for growth and success. This especially applies as a parent when we are trying to control or limit the mistakes, failures, hurdles and losses our children face.

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 884

If you are feeling a depth of loss and you are not sure how to find balance, then this is the show for you. My co-host Yarona Boster who just returned from burying her brother has agreed to still come in the show and process real-time her grief and find comfort with #drmarissa instead of being the grief coach for a change…giving her the gift that she gives to so many.

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 907

How important is autonomy in parenting?

In the past generations it's been "my way or the highway" and "because I said so!" when it came to parental control...then we went to "whatever you want sweetheart" which also had just as many unintended consequences as the former approach. Join us to learn about the importance of recognizing your own and your children's need for autonomy and control over their own bodies and lives. Balancing the sharing of the wisdom you've gained, the knowledge you've picked up and the experiences you've had with their need to explore for themselves and live their own lives, not yours.

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 927

How can you help your child navigate their through a sea of emotions? In our quest to do better than our parents did, what can we say instead of "Noys don't cry" "be a big boy/girl" " stop crying or I will give you something to really cry about?!" Join my in house certified parenting coach Yarona Boster LIVE in studio this week as we talk about the importance of developing emotional intelligence, empathy, calm compassion, balance and the emotional contagion.

Love, Loss and Living

Episode 949

Healthy boundaries...how important are they? And how can parents help their kids find the balance between extreme self-importance and extreme non-importance so they can develop an awareness of and establish their own boundaries as they grow up. From personal to interpersonal boundaries, as well as societal and life boundaries, it's important to really understand them, develop them and respect them to be able to navigate the world in a healthy and resilient manner.

How Loss and Parenting Are Intricately Connected.

When most people think of loss, they very rarely consider the connection between loss and the critical development of great parenting skills.

We'll dive deep into the underlying foundations of loss and human development and uncover why it matters and how you can use loss as a tool in your role as a parent and caregiver for your children.

The daughter of a surviving parent of the Holocaust, Yarona Boster, bears the secrets & gifts that life has to offer.

Listen Here

Yarona discloses her strong advocacy for change and understands that “perspective” is everything in the events, traumas, highs, lows, and LOSSES that shape our lives. Her views of the overall human disconnect in society worry, frustrate, and pain her for the fate of our civilization. With more people overly connected to their personal devices instead of the other people around them, Yarona believes, that this is developing a society of indifference.

Liisa Wagner Linked-In Spotlight

"Successful women who are able to do it all AMAZE ME! These women wear many hats but also know that they can give more to everyone around them if they take care of themselves first.

I recently met Yarona Boster, who coaches parents of both neurotypical children and children with disabilities. (I will confess that I had to look up “neurotypical”). She also takes her coaching to a different level and coaches parents after infertility, traumas or losses.

There can never be enough support for any parent facing any of these situations. So thank you Yarona!
In getting to know Yarona a bit deeper, I discovered that she deserves to be cheered on for her perseverance and strength to help others through her coaching practice. Yarona has lost many loved ones, including her parents and loved ones with disabilities. She has struggled with traumatic infertility, sexual assault, and divorce.

And through all of it, Yarona is a mom to a wonderful 5 year old. I wanted to know how she manages to do it all and take care of herself at the same time.

Yarona tells me her key to SELF-CARE is recognizing when she needs to take a step back and schedule alone time for herself. Her message to the “helpers of the world” is to remember that self-compassion is NOT the same as selfish behavior.

If you are looking for a coach who can empathize and guide you through life’s difficult challenges, look to Yarona. She not only offers one-on-one coaching and parenting workshops, she is a keynote speaker (and certified Speaker Coach) giving TED, TEDx & keynote talks world wide.

We, your fellow hard-working moms, are here to cheer you on Yarona! Thank you for all that you do!"

Yarona grew up in Passaic and Clifton, NJ, attended Rutgers University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy.  During her time at RU, Yarona became one of the founding members of SHADES Theater, Student Health Advocates Developing Educational Scenarios, run by the Rutgers Department of Health.  She was also an active part of the Sexual Health Advocates program, as well as TA for the course during her upper classman years.

Although Yarona's heart remained with the health and well being of others, after graduation she expanded her experiences into animal health and became a veterinary technician for a time.  After a number of very tumultuous years of pain, loss, grief and betrayal, Yarona eventually moved back into the public health realm in the field of early childhood, running an Early Intervention program for children with developmental delays and disabilities.

As the child of a Holocaust survivor, daughter of divorce, sexual assault survivor, aunt to 2 children who died from their disabilities, a divorcee herself, end of life caregiver to both parents lost to cancer and an infertility warrior, Yarona is a loss expert and believes firmly in the saying that we don't always have a choice in what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond to it.
